Frequently Asked Questions

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a process in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layer, resulting in smoother, more evenly toned skin that appears more youthful. The chemicals used are Glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or trichloroacetic acid.

There are three types of chemical peel:

  1. Superficial peel: This is done for those who have mild acne, dryness, and uneven tone, where mild acid is used to remove the outermost skin layer.
  2. Medium Peel: This is done for those who have deeper wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven skin color, where acid is used to remove the top and middle layer of the skin.
  3. Deep Peel: This is done for those who have severe sun damage, deep scars, or wrinkles, where high-strength acid is used to penetrate deep into the skin.

Chemical peel is commonly used for:

  • Treating active acne
  • Minimizing the acne scars
  • Fading of dark spots, sun damage

  • Improving wrinkles or fine lines

How does a chemical peel treatment work?

Firstly, a medically trained professional will assess your skin and create a customised plan based on its texture.

A dermatologist gives a plan for 2-4 weeks before the procedure, such as applying cream. On the treatment day, the skin is cleaned to remove oils and dirt. Then the acidic solution is applied to the skin with the help of a brush or a cotton pad. The clients may feel a little warmth or a burning sensation, which lasts for a few minutes, dissolving the bonds that hold dead skin cells together. Then, a white powdery layer indicates how deep the chemical has penetrated.

It replaces the damaged layer with new, healthier skin cells. For Superficial peel, a neutralized solution is used in case of any reaction, and for medium and deep peel, the face is washed with cold water in case of any reaction.

    Does a chemical peel hurt?

Everyone feels pain differently, but most people say it is barely painful; a feeling of discomfort may occur during treatment, such as a stinging or burning sensation, but for Deep peel, anesthesia might be required. During the procedure, a handheld fan or a cold compress is used to relieve the burning sensation.

Tips to ensure that you don't feel pain during the procedure:

  • Pre peel preparation, which usually starts 1 to 2 weeks prior, where ingredients like retinol or salicylic acid should be stopped using
  • Waxing should be avoided for at least a week before
  • Do not shave during the day of treatment.

A few things to keep in mind after Chemical peel treatment, as the skin needs proper aftercare:

  • Apply sunscreen of SPF 30+ every single day, even if indoors
  • Moisturize your skin regularly to prevent dryness, and make sure your cream contains hyaluronic acid.
  • Use a gentle, non-foaming cleanser only with your fingertips, and avoid loofahs, washcloths, or cleansing brushes.
  • For the first week, use only products prescribed by the medically trained professionals.
  • Do not pick, pull, or scrub your skin.
  • Do not use vitamin C serums.
  • Avoid hot showers, steam rooms
  • Avoid intense workouts.
  • Avoid makeup for at least 24 - 48 hours.
  • Avoid waxing or threading for at least 4 weeks.
  • Avoid direct sunlight for at least 1 week.
  • Make sure to sleep on your back with your head elevated.
  • Are chemical peels before and after results noticeable?

Chemical peel before and after results depend on the individual's skin texture, tone, and the number of sessions. Yes, the chemical peel before and after results are noticeable.

The main difference between before and after Chemical Peel treatment is:

  • Before, the skin texture is usually rough, dry, uneven; after a chemical peel, the skin texture becomes smoother and softer
  • Before, the skin tone usually had sun spots, acne marks, and dullness. After a chemical peel, the skin tone becomes bright and radiant.
  • Before, the skin had fine lines, especially around the eyes and mouth. After a chemical peel, the fine lines are reduced.
  • Before, the skin had active acne and large pores. After a chemical peel, acne pores are reduced, and the skin looks clearer.
  • Overall, before the appearance of the skin is dull or aged, whereas after a chemical peel, the skin looks younger and rejuvenated.
  • Where can I get a chemical peel near me and in the GTA?

We assume that by mentioning a chemical peel near me, you mean to look for a place where you can get yourself a chemical peel near Toronto. Is that right?
